PPA promotes ‘Scrap to Structure’ initiative to boost waste management

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has stepped up its waste management and environmental sustainability initiatives by promoting the innovative ‘Scrap to Structure’ concept, aimed at creatively reusing discarded materials and encouraging resource recovery.
The initiative is part of a series of activities being undertaken by PPA under Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 to promote cleanliness, hygiene, environmental responsibility and greater public participation across the Port and township areas.
PPA is also encouraging plastic-free and environmentally responsible celebrations by promoting reusable alternatives, proper segregation of waste and responsible disposal practices.
Special emphasis is being laid on environmental sustainability, tree plantation, beautification and creating awareness among employees, Port users and members of the local community.
Under the overall guidance of PPA Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit, the Port Authority is coordinating various activities under SHS 2026 with the active participation of officers, employees, CISF personnel and other stakeholders.
As part of the campaign, a Swachhata Pledge ceremony was organised at the Portico of the PPA Administrative Building, where Deputy Chairperson T. Venu Gopal administered the pledge to Heads of Departments, senior officers and CISF personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, Gopal called upon employees and stakeholders to actively participate in the SHS 2026 cleanliness drive and contribute to creating and maintaining a clean, hygienic and sustainable Port environment.
He stressed the importance of collective responsibility and sustained participation in cleanliness and environmental protection initiatives.
As part of the awareness campaign, the CANMASS team staged a street play highlighting the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, responsible waste management and environmental protection.
The street play focused on maintaining clean surroundings, preventing pollution, avoiding improper disposal of waste and adopting environmentally responsible practices. PPA officials, employees and other stakeholders participated in the programme and appreciated the CANMASS team for using an effective public-awareness medium to spread the message of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
PPA is also undertaking tree plantation drives at identified locations across the Port and township areas as part of its environmental sustainability efforts. The initiative aims to increase green cover, promote environmental conservation and create greater awareness about the importance of trees and a healthy environment.
Under SHS 2026, PPA is undertaking a wide range of activities, including cleanliness drives, tree plantation, awareness programmes, school outreach initiatives, cleanliness-awareness hoardings, Swachhata Rath campaigns, cleaning and maintenance of Port and public facilities, digital awareness displays, human chains and street plays.
Through these initiatives, PPA is seeking to strengthen its commitment to the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachhata Hi Seva while encouraging collective action towards creating a cleaner, greener and healthier Paradip.
PPA has appealed to its employees, CISF personnel, Port users, stakeholders and members of the local community to actively participate in SHS 2026 and make cleanliness, environmental care and responsible waste management a sustained habit and a shared responsibility.
