Swanand Kirkire’s new musical set to premiere at Prithvi Theatre Festival

Mumbai, Nov 4 (UNI) Actor, lyricist and writer Swanand Kirkire is set to return to theatre with his new musical, ‘Yo Brother, This Is 95 – A Musical’, which will premiere at the Prithvi Theatre Festival.
Set in small-town India in 1995, the play explores economic changes and their impact on the lives of ordinary people through satire, humour and folk music.
The play revolves around a young door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman who, in his quest for livelihood and a better future, struggles to establish himself amidst work goals, incentives, and competition. It explores the impact of the changing market environment, consumerist culture, and corporate practices on everyday life.
Kirkire said that this play is about a time when India's perception of success was beginning to change. Words like targets, incentives, and growth were becoming part of everyday conversations. These changes impacted people's ambitions, relationships, and the way they judged each other. The play attempts to portray this change through the life of a young salesman, using humour and music.
