Talwar clinches PGTI crown, earns 2027 Tour card

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Saptak Talwar’s consistent run through the 2026 season culminated in the biggest breakthrough of his career as the 27-year-old emerged as the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Order of Merit champion, earning a coveted card for the 2027 DP World Tour season.
Talwar finished atop the season standings with earnings of ₹1,02,47,684, comfortably ahead of his nearest rival, Khalin Joshi, who accumulated ₹77,32,225 to finish second.
The title caps a season in which Talwar combined a tournament victory with a series of strong finishes, underlining his growing stature in Indian professional golf and opening the door to another campaign on the European circuit.
Representing Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida, Talwar won the Indorama Ventures Open and finished tied second at the DP World PGTI Open, co-sanctioned by the HotelPlanner Tour and DP World PGTI. He also recorded six other top-10 finishes during the season.
His achievement secures him a place on the DP World Tour for 2027, providing an opportunity to test himself against stronger international fields and pursue further progress at the highest level of professional golf.
Talwar finished tied 55th at the season-ending DP World India Championship at the Delhi Golf Club, carding a total of one-under-par 287. Although his performance at the final event did not bring a high finish, his work across the season had already established him as the leading player on the Indian circuit.
Reflecting on his campaign, Talwar described the year as one of consistency and considerable personal growth, crediting his experience of competing on both the DP World PGTI and the HotelPlanner Tour for helping him develop as a golfer.
In his fourth year on the Indian circuit, he said travelling across the country and learning from fellow professionals had helped him improve his game. He added that he had already begun applying those lessons and would continue working on areas that needed improvement.
Talwar also pointed to the rising competitiveness of Indian professional golf, citing Joshi’s four tournament victories in 2026 and the success of other multiple winners as evidence of the increasingly demanding standard on the circuit.
He said the growing depth of competition was pushing players to sharpen their skills and prepare better for overseas tournaments, where maintaining high standards was essential.
Looking ahead to Europe, Talwar said he welcomed the challenge of difficult playing conditions, including the unpredictable weather he had experienced during his previous two years competing there. He believes tougher conditions help him remain focused throughout a round.
The Delhi Golf Club, however, proved a stern examination during the season-ending championship. Talwar said the course was demanding even without the rough, while the week's setup made all four rounds particularly stressful. He felt his game from tee to green was sound but acknowledged that his putting had not delivered the results he wanted.
His family, including his parents and sister, followed him on the course on Sunday. Talwar credited their continued support, describing them as his sounding board on matters both related to golf and life.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Gurugram-based rookie Kartik Singh was named the DP World PGTI Emerging Player of the Year after earning ₹33,00,660, the highest amount among rookies.
Singh finished 20th in the overall Order of Merit, supported by two top-10 finishes during the season, marking an encouraging start to his professional career.
Talwar's triumph and Singh's emergence offer two contrasting milestones for Indian golf: an established professional earning a major international opportunity and a teenage rookie making an early impression on the domestic circuit.
