Tawang DC reviews tourist regulations, stresses security in sensitive locations

Itanagar, June 12 (UNI) In a proactive move to boost tourism while maintaining national security, newly posted Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting with key stakeholders from the tourism sector and law enforcement agencies, with special focus on the regulation of foreign tourist movement in sensitive areas.
The meeting focused on streamlining the movement of foreign tourists in sensitive areas of the district. Concerns were raised by tourism stakeholders regarding the lack of uniform guidelines for foreign tourist visits, particularly in high-interest yet ecologically and strategically sensitive zones.
Addressing the gathering, DC Angmo assured that the concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate higher authorities for necessary directives. However, she emphasized that national security remains the utmost priority and urged all stakeholders to act responsibly in upholding this objective.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier Bhupal Singh, Commander of Tawang Brigade, Tawang SP Dr D W Thongon, DFO Piyush Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner Sangey Wangmu Mosobi, District Tourism Officer Tsering Deki, and representatives from the Hoteliers Association, Taxi and Tour Operators Association, Homestay Owners Association, Market Welfare Committee, and intelligence agencies.
Following the tourism meeting, the monthly NCORD (National Committee on Drug Control) meeting was also held, during which SP Dr Thongon presented the district’s current crime status. He reported that since the arrest of a drug peddler and several consumers last year, no new drug-related cases have been registered in the district.
The SP said that to further enhance safety, night patrolling has been intensified, and surveillance cameras are being installed at all key entry and exit points in and around Tawang. He also appealed to local associations and the public to remain vigilant and report any drug-related or anti-social activities.
DC Angmo commended the efforts of law enforcement agencies and stressed the collective responsibility in ensuring a crime-free and secure Tawang.
“Maintaining Tawang’s image as a safe, welcoming, and secure destination is a shared responsibility,” she said, encouraging active community participation to ensure sustained and responsible tourism growth.
The interactive session concluded with insightful contributions from representatives of paramilitary forces, intelligence units, and tourism stakeholders, aimed at improving coordination and ensuring sustainable and secure growth of tourism in the region.
