Tejaswi alleges rising tax, fee burden under NDA government

Patna, Sept 16 (UNI) Bihar Leader of Opposition and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) working president Tejaswi Yadav Wednesday alleged that the NDA government was increasing the financial burden on the common people through various taxes, levies and service charges.
Yadav said here that the people were being charged for a range of banking services, including maintaining money in bank accounts, ATM withdrawals, debit cards, SMS alerts and maintaining minimum balances. He pointed out that charges were being imposed on digital payment services as well.
The RJD leader said people had to pay both direct and indirect taxes while purchasing goods, apart from taxes on income, GST, toll tax and road tax. He also referred to various cesses, including education, environment, health, agriculture infrastructure and development, and road and infrastructure cess. “Such a large number of taxes and levies have been imposed that the common man is being crushed under their burden,” he alleged.
Yadav further alleged that the government had extended the tax burden to several sectors, including water, air, education, healthcare and agriculture. Referring to the government''s emphasis on Digital India and a cashless economy, he questioned the imposition of charges in the digital payments ecosystem.
He alleged that the digital infrastructure promoted by the NDA government was now being used as a means to increase the financial burden on citizens.
Referring to demonetisation, Yadav said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had, at the time, claimed that the move would help eliminate corruption, black money and terrorism. He alleged that the country had witnessed the adverse consequences of demonetisation, with several small traders suffering losses and the economy being adversely affected.
The RJD leader also alleged that the Prime Minister was acting at the behest of the United States and his corporate allies, and claimed that there was a wide gap between his words and actions. UNI RS CDS
