Telangana: BJP launches Valmiki Jayanti celebrations, slams Congress over Kharge’s remarks and SIR

Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) The Telangana BJP on Monday launched week-long celebrations of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti at its state office, while State BJP president N Ramchander Rao criticised the Congress over party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s reported remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father and accused it of spreading misinformation about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Rao paid floral tributes to Maharshi Valmiki and offered special prayers at the programme organised by the BJP SC Morcha.
Speaking to the media, he said Valmiki’s transformation from a robber into the author of the Ramayana demonstrated how determination and personal change could help anyone achieve greatness. He also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s reported remarks about the worship of Lord Rama in South India.
Condemning Kharge’s remarks at a public event in Patna, Rao accused the Congress of resorting to personal attacks against Modi and announced that the BJP would burn effigies of the Congress in Hyderabad and district headquarters across Telangana.
On the SIR exercise, Rao rejected the Congress’s allegations of mass voter deletions and challenged Revanth Reddy to verify the electoral roll status in his native village, Kondareddypalli. He claimed that around 13 crore entries nationwide had been identified under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) categories, and demanded that the Congress provide evidence for its allegations of voter deletions.
Rao also questioned the Chief Minister’s proposed participation in the Congress rally in Delhi on November 1, arguing that the State should prioritise drought and water shortages. He claimed that 330 mandals were facing drought-like conditions, only around 500 of the State’s 6,000 tanks held water, and Hyderabad required nearly 8,000 water tanker trips daily.
Meanwhile, BJP SC Morcha State president Kanthi Kiran announced that Valmiki Jayanti programmes would be organised in SC localities across Telangana for a week to spread the teachings of Maharshi Valmiki and the values associated with Lord Rama. BJP State General Secretary Vemula Ashok, Koppu Bhasha, Valmiki Samaj State President Kishan Singh and other party leaders and workers attended the programme.
Rao further announced that the BJP would organise a padayatra on November 2 under the slogans “Loktantra Bachao – Save Democracy” and “Arachakam Hatavo – Remove Anarchy.” union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to visit Telangana to participate in the march.
