Telangana BJP slams Kharge over 'Modi ka baap bhi jayega' remark

Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) The Telangana BJP on Monday criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his reported "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" remark at a public event in Patna, accusing the Congress leadership of lowering political discourse by resorting to personal attacks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement, BJP state chief spokesperson and media in-charge N V Subhash questioned whether the Congress had run out of political arguments and was compelled to bring the Prime Minister's family into its criticism. He said political differences should be debated on the basis of governance, development and public issues rather than remarks involving family members.
Subhash alleged that the Congress was frustrated by Modi's national and international standing and the public support he enjoyed. Instead of presenting a credible political alternative and addressing people's concerns, the party was indulging in personal attacks, he charged.
The controversy erupted during Kharge's address at an event in Patna on Sunday, when an audience member reportedly interrupted him by saying that Modi would not leave office. Kharge responded with the remark, triggering a commotion. The person, identified as Santosh Kumar, later alleged that he had been assaulted by Congress supporters.
The Congress defended Kharge, claiming that a BJP worker had first insulted the Congress president's late father. It also argued that Kharge's remark referred to Modi's ideological association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), rather than his biological father.
Kharge also criticised the RSS and BJP, asserting that peace would remain elusive in the country as long as the RSS ideology persisted, further intensifying the political confrontation between the two parties.
Subhash said political leaders had a responsibility to maintain the dignity of public debate, irrespective of ideological differences. He urged the Congress to focus on governance, national development and issues affecting ordinary citizens instead of allowing political exchanges to degenerate into personal mudslinging.
