Telangana: CSIR-CCMB launches farmer-focused activities at Bommaipalli campus

Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR-CCMB) has begun operations at its third annex campus at Bommaipalli village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, with a focus on sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.
The 50-acre campus is being used partly for cultivating Super Rice varieties that are resistant to infections and parasites and tolerant to high soil salinity and low phosphorus levels.
For the first time at the facility, CSIR-CCMB organised a Scientist Meet and Seed Distribution Programme, bringing together more than 150 farmers, agricultural officials, district administration representatives and over 100 CCMB scientists and staff.
CSIR-CCMB Director Vinay K Nandicoori said the facility would help expand the institute's scientific activities and create new opportunities around Bhongir, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
Officials stressed the importance of adopting high-yielding, climate-resilient and diabetes-friendly crop varieties developed through scientific research. Rice varieties jointly developed by CSIR-CCMB and ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR-IIRR) were distributed to more than 150 farmers.
The programme provided a platform for direct interaction between scientists and farmers, enabling exchange of information on improved crop varieties and the practical challenges faced by the farming community.
Officials said the initiative would strengthen science-led rural development and promote sustainable livelihoods in the region, a CCMB statement said Thursday.
