Telangana culture shining abroad, says Speaker Prasad Kumar

Bern, (Switzerland)/Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Thursday appreciated the Telugu diaspora in Switzerland for preserving and promoting their mother tongue, culture and traditions despite living abroad.
A Telangana Legislature delegation, currently in Switzerland as part of a study tour under the aegis of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), interacted with members of the Telugu community in Bern.
Prasad Kumar launched the official website of the Switzerland Telugu Association and unveiled the poster for this year’s Bathukamma celebrations. He lauded the association for teaching Telugu to children and organising festivals such as Bathukamma and Bonalu, saying such efforts would help pass the State’s cultural heritage to future generations.
The Speaker said Bathukamma was not merely a festival of flowers but a symbol of Telangana’s self-respect, women’s empowerment and a way of life in harmony with nature. He called upon the Telugu community to make the Bathukamma celebrations, scheduled to be held in Switzerland on October 24 with the support of the Telangana government, a grand success. Tourism and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao is expected to attend the celebrations.
Representatives of the Switzerland Telugu Association also briefed the delegation about a proposed Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Switzerland. Prasad Kumar assured them that he would take up the matter with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials regarding possible support for the project.
Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash, senior Legislature officials and Switzerland Telugu Association representatives were among those present.
