Telangana to expand farm mechanisation scheme with Rs 147.99 cr allocation

Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Thursday said the State government has revived the farm mechanisation scheme and allocated Rs 147.99 crore for 2026-27 to extend its benefits to more farmers.
He said Rs 71 crore was allocated in 2025-26, of which Rs 63 crore was utilised. The government was ready to launch the scheme for the current year and was awaiting Central guidelines on beneficiary selection.
The Minister said SC and ST farmers would receive a 60 per cent subsidy, while BC and other farmers would get 40 per cent, with the subsidy directly credited to their bank accounts to ensure transparency and minimise middlemen.
He said 37 types of agricultural equipment had been finalised under the scheme, up from 19 earlier. Farmers would be given the flexibility to purchase equipment from any empanelled company of their choice after comparing price and quality.
Tummala also directed officials to explore setting up Custom Hiring Centres through Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), enabling small and marginal farmers to rent machinery at lower costs.
He asked officials to gather feedback from farmers and FPO representatives during the upcoming Rythu Nestam programme and incorporate feasible suggestions while finalising the scheme, according to an official statement.
