Telangana Governor calls for collective effort to make Medak drug-free

Medak, Oct 6 (UNI) Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla called for collective efforts by families, schools, police, officials and the public to make Medak a drug-free district and urged people to adopt the message "Yes to life, No to drugs."
Participating in the Nasha Mukt Bharat programme at the Medak Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) on Tuesday, the Governor flagged off a drug-free awareness rally and stressed that social change must begin with individuals and families.
He said the youth had a crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of a drug-free India by 2029, warning that substance abuse among young people could adversely affect the country's development.
He urged schools to conduct awareness programmes every month and asked teachers and parents to identify students vulnerable to drug abuse at an early stage.
The Governor also called for a TB-free India, noting that tuberculosis is curable and medicines are available free of cost at government health centres if treatment is taken regularly.
Congratulating the Telangana Police for receiving national recognition for their efforts against drug abuse, he urged the media to support awareness campaigns across the state.
He recalled that around 15,000 students took a drug-free pledge in Hyderabad in June and called for similar pledges to be administered in every school.
Minister Gaddam Vivek Venkatswamy, MP Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao, MLA Rohit Rao, Collector Pratima Singh, SP D.V. Srinivasa Rao and other officials participated in the programme.
The Governor also visited Mahila Shakti stalls showcasing products made by self-help groups.
