Telangana highlights innovative policing initiatives at Southern Regional Meet

Hyderabad, Oct 23 (UNI) Telangana DGP C V Anand highlighted the State's innovative policing initiatives to tackle narcotics, cybercrime, terrorism and women's safety at the Southern Regional Police Coordination Committee (SRPCC) meeting held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Banjara Hills, on Friday.
He said specialised forces such as Greyhounds and the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) had played a crucial role in combating Left-Wing Extremism, while OCTOPUS was established to tackle terrorism. The EAGLE anti-narcotics force, launched in 2023 with dedicated manpower and infrastructure, had achieved significant results in drug control. Officers in the force were granted an additional 30 per cent pay, and it received a national award in September. Anand noted that cannabis remained a major challenge despite effective control over several other narcotics.
Highlighting the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), he said it had delivered strong results in combating online fraud, removing fraudulent content and helping restore money to victims. The bureau had also performed well in national assessments.
Anand said Telangana had adapted police deployment to changing security needs, reallocating around 100 personnel from units dealing with Left-Wing Extremism to strengthen traffic management, road safety, drug control and enforcement.
He described the ICCC, built at a cost of around RS 600 crore and operational since August 2022, as a central hub for police coordination, State-wide CCTV monitoring, traffic management and disaster response. He also outlined plans for a dedicated traffic management and road safety authority with nearly 1,000 personnel, financial independence and 40 per cent of traffic fine collections earmarked for its operations.
He further highlighted technology-driven smart policing initiatives and the dedicated human and women's safety wing. Bharosa centres provide victims with counselling, psychological and medical assistance, as well as prosecution support under one roof, contributing to improved convictions in cases involving women. The T-Safe application was also cited as an important initiative to strengthen women's safety.
Anand said Telangana would continue adapting its policing strategies to emerging challenges and adopt effective practices from other States to improve law enforcement, crime prevention and public safety.
DGPs and IGPs from five southern States and representatives from three union Territories attended the meeting, along with senior officials from the IB, CBI, DRI, NIA, CISF, BSF and CRPF.
