Telangana: People’s Govt fulfils Singareni workers’ housing dream: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad, Oct 13 (UNI) Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Tuesday said the Congress government had taken several steps to improve the welfare of Singareni employees and contract workers, including fulfilling their long-standing dream of owning houses.
Addressing a press conference at Praja Bhavan along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, he accused the previous BRS government of neglecting Singareni workers and failing to resolve long-pending issues such as discrepancies in employees’ names.
Sridhar Babu said the Congress government had filled 3,189 posts in Singareni since assuming office, including 2,437 compassionate appointments and 752 posts through external recruitment. He said it was inappropriate for the BRS to politicise compassionate appointments while the present government was addressing workers’ concerns.
Highlighting welfare measures, he said the government was implementing a free accident insurance scheme worth Rs 40 lakh for each of the nearly 30,000 contract workers. Singareni workers were also being provided accident insurance coverage of Rs 1.20 crore, a benefit he said was not available even to Coal India employees.
The Minister questioned why the BRS government, during its decade-long tenure, had failed to resolve the alias-name issue and secure new coal mines. He accused the BRS of shedding crocodile tears over Singareni employees while neglecting their welfare when it was in power.
Despite inadequate cooperation from the Centre, the Congress government was making efforts to secure new coal blocks and strengthen Singareni’s future, he added.
