Temperature soars above normal in Jammu-Kashmir, west Rajasthan

Pune, May 1 (UNI) Day temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over west Rajasthan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
Day Temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at isolated places over east Rajasthan, Gujarat, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, the IMD bulletin said.
The temperatures were markedly below normal (-5.1 °C or below) at isolated places over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at a few places over Gangetic West Bengal and east Uttar Pradesh.
The appreciably below-normal temperatures were also recorded at isolated places over Bihar, while the mercury remained below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Jharkhand and at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the IMD said.
The rest of the country experienced normal temperatures.
On Wednesday, the highest maximum temperature of 46.8°C was reported at Barmer (west Rajasthan).
Hailstorms occurred at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
Heat wave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of west Rajasthan, while dust storms occurred at isolated places over west Madhya Pradesh.
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands; at a few places in Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka and Kerala; at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and coastal Karnataka.
Mainly dry weather has prevailed in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, west Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, north interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, the IMD said.
