TN police arrests absconding accused in Mumbai in Idol theft case

Chennai, May 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Idol Wing CID police has arrested
an absconding accused in Mumbai connection with an antique metal idol
theft case.
An official release here on Friday said based on specific information, a
Special Team conducted a vehicle check at Alathur Junction on Pudukottai
-Trichy Main Road, on March 19, 2024 and intercepted a vehicle and seized
an antique Goddess Amman metal idol and arrested three people.
Those arrested were Ajithkumar, Mustafa and Sriram and seized the metal
idol worth Rs.20 crores.
During this interception one Raja @ Manoj @ Manojkumar escaped.
A case was registered in IWCID U/s 41 (1) (d), 102 CrPC and 454 (2),
457 (2) 380 (2) IPC.
Enquiries revealed that the absconded accused Manoj is working abroad
following which the Superintendent of Police, Idol Wing CID Chennai had
sent a Look Out Circular (LOC) to the Bureau of Immigration, Union
Ministry of Home Affairs on April 2, 2025.
On May 16, 2025 at 00.15 hours, Manoj kumar was detained at Chathrapathi
Shivaji Airport, Mumbai by Immigration Authorities and was produced before
the Judicial Magistrate (First class) 65th court, Andheri, Mumbai the same day.
He had been kept at Andheri Police station.
On receiving this information, TN Idol Wing CID ASP Central Zone, Trichy,
G. Balamurugan and N.Elangovan, Sub-Inspector of Police, the Investigating
Officer of this case and others rushed to Mumbai.
On May 18, Tamil Nadu Idol Wing CID Police arrested the accused and
produced him before Judicial Magistrate First class (Holiday Court) Bandhra,
Mumbai and brought him to Tamil Nadu on May 20.
After following all procedures, Manoj kumar was produced before Additional
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Madurai on May 21 and remanded in custody.
