TPCC leaders seek four-week extension for graduate voter enrolment

Hyderabad, Oct 28 (UNI) Pulipati Rajesh Kumar, Chairman of the TPCC Election Commission Coordination Committee, and Gampa Venugopal, State Coordinator for SIR, have urged Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy to extend the graduate voter enrolment deadline by at least four weeks and simplify the registration process ahead of the upcoming Graduate MLC elections.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, they pointed out that the November 6 deadline could prevent many eligible graduates from registering due to lack of awareness, difficulties in obtaining documents and procedural hurdles. They sought extensive voter awareness campaigns in educational institutions, IT parks and rural areas.
The leaders also requested the removal of the mandatory Gazetted Officer attestation requirement for degree certificates issued by recognised universities in Telangana. They suggested online verification by election officials or acceptance of self-attested certificates, wherever permissible under the rules.
Expressing concern over reportedly low graduate voter enrolment compared with the previous election, they stressed the need to simplify procedures and encourage greater participation in the Mahabubnagar–Rangareddy–Hyderabad and Warangal–Khammam–Nalgonda Graduate MLC constituencies.
The representation also sought clarification on a media report claiming that around five lakh voters had been removed from electoral rolls through Form 7 applications before the commencement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The leaders asked whether the applications were generated using artificial intelligence or submitted physically, sought details of the applications and called for a thorough review to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls.
