Training crucial to building effective police officers: DGP C V Anand

Hyderabad, Sep 30 (UNI) Telangana DGP C V Anand on Wednesday said training is the foundation of a police officer’s career and is essential to developing disciplined, competent and effective officers.
Addressing 112 probationary DSPs undergoing a 10-month professional course at the RBVRR Telangana Police Academy here, Anand highlighted leadership qualities including courage, vision, integrity, teamwork, impartiality, communication, hard work, digital awareness, innovation and humility.
He particularly stressed the importance of ethics and protecting one's reputation throughout a long police career.
The DGP urged the probationers to prepare for field challenges involving public interaction, crime investigation, law enforcement and technology.
He said policing requires not only knowledge of law but also leadership, humane conduct, investigative skills, physical fitness and effective communication, with the ultimate goal of ensuring public safety and timely justice.
Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht said the training programme includes 74 men and 38 women and covers criminal law, BNS, criminology, investigation, financial crimes, physical fitness and leadership. Practical training includes combat exercises, horse riding, swimming and weapons handling.
Later, Anand presented prizes to winners of the 5th Telangana Police Sports and Games Meet–2026, Cluster-C. More than 700 police personnel participated in badminton, lawn tennis and table tennis.
He said sports were vital for physical and mental fitness and encouraged police personnel to spend at least an hour daily on sports or exercise, according to a DGP’s office statement.
