Trump bars CNN from flying aboard Air Force One as part of major TV networks for his trip to Tennesse

Washington, Sep 26 (UNI) US President Donald Trump has barred CNN from flying aboard Air Force One for his Saturday trip to Tennessee, preventing the network from carrying out its scheduled duties as part of the White House television press pool.
The media platform was scheduled to accompany Trump to Knoxville for a college football game as part of the rotating television pool. The pool covers the president when space is limited and shares footage and information with other networks.
However, the White House announced the change in a schedule notice on Friday night, barring CNN from the trip, although reports later said conservative outlet Real America’s Voice News would replace it.
The move comes less than two days after CNN, MS NOW and Politico regained access to the White House under a court order.
Last week, Trump announced that the three outlets would be barred from the White House, accusing them of what he called “FAKE NEWS”. The decision also disrupted CNN’s scheduled role in the television pool during Trump’s trip to the UN General Assembly in New York.
US District Judge Timothy Kelly subsequently ordered the administration to restore the outlets’ access to the White House. The ruling did not directly resolve questions over participation in the television press pool, leaving uncertainty over whether restored White House credentials also guaranteed access to presidential travel.
The five major television networks that rotate responsibility for the pool - CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News - had temporarily halted pool coverage after CNN was excluded. Coverage resumed on Friday after CNN’s access was restored, with CBS handling the pool for Trump’s events with Chinese President Xi Jinping and CNN taking over at the National Archives.
It was not immediately clear how Saturday’s decision would affect the continuing legal dispute. CNN, MS NOW and Politico are challenging the administration’s restrictions in federal court, arguing that the measures violate constitutional protections for the press.
Trump renewed his attacks on CNN and MS NOW on Truth Social on Saturday, writing that outlets he described as “FAKE NEWS” should not have access to the White House. He later wrote in capital letters that “FAKE NEWS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE WHITE HOUSE”.
The television pool is a key part of presidential coverage in the US. Its members provide video and information to other television organisations when the wider press corps cannot travel with the president or enter a venue. The system also includes separate pools for print journalists, radio reporters and still photographers.
The White House Correspondents’ Association has said the public has an interest in receiving independent coverage of presidential activities, while representatives of television networks have argued that the pool allows footage of the president to be shared nationally and internationally.
The White House also produces its own livestreams and other material from presidential events, but news organisations have argued that government-produced footage cannot replace independent pool coverage.
