Two arrested in Panipat ATM card swapping fraud, Rs 60,000 recovered

Panipat, Nov 2 (UNI) Panipat police have arrested two men for allegedly swapping ATM cards to fraudulently withdraw money from bank accounts, while recovering Rs 60,000 and a motorcycle used in the crime.
A police spokesman on Monday identified the duo as Pradeep alias Deepa alias Thapa, son of Samundar, and Sanjay, son of Amar Singh, both residents of Chandpur Majbada in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The arrests were made by the Sector 29 Industrial Area police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Medha Bhushan.
Police said Sanjay was named in 10 previous cases involving cheating and other offences, while Pradeep faced seven cases relating to cheating, assault and other offences.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Gabbar Singh, a resident of Siwah village in Panipat, who alleged that his son's ATM card had been exchanged by two unidentified men during a cash withdrawal on October 6.
According to the complaint, his son Nitin had visited a Punjab National Bank ATM in Siwah village and withdrawn Rs 25,000 in three transactions of Rs 10,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000.
Two men entered the ATM kiosk while he was withdrawing cash. After the final transaction, Nitin inadvertently left his card in the machine. The men returned a card to him, which the family later discovered was not theirs.
The fraud came to light on October 8 when the family attempted another withdrawal and found that the card belonged to someone named Kedar Nath. The family subsequently approached the bank and had its original card blocked.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation, which led to the arrests.
During police remand, investigators recovered Rs 60,000 allegedly withdrawn through fraud and the motorcycle used by the accused.
Both men were produced before a court after the completion of their police remand and sent to judicial custody, the spokesman said. UNI KK CDS
