Two held in Kohima with illicit drugs worth Rs 1.6 cr

Dimapur, Oct 5 (UNI) In a major haul of illicit drugs, the Kohima Police seized 20,000 tablets of suspected Yaba (Methamphetamine) worth around Rs 1.6 crore from a vehicle and apprehended two persons.
The accused have been identified as Nazrul Islam (36) and Deben Kumar Das (40), both from Silchar district of Assam.
Kohima police PRO, in a release, on Monday said acting on vigilant surveillance during routine vehicle checking operations at the Kidima Prayer Park junction, Kohima police personnel intercepted a Hyundai Venue (AS01EB0630) and noticed suspicious modifications to the vehicle's body, with a portion of the floor recently welded and freshly painted.
Small packets wrapped in black polythene were discovered hidden within the vehicle's structural cavities. A detailed search led to the recovery of 10 medium-sized packets containing 20,000 tablets of suspected Yaba (Methamphetamine), the commercial value of which is approximately Rs 1.6 crore, the release said.
The two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody at the spot.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were transporting the illegal narcotics from Churachandpur, Manipur, and were en route to Silchar.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Kezocha police station.
