Security forces recover arms ; militants nabbed for blast at MLA’s residence in Manipur

Imphal, Oct 5 (UNI) Security forces and Manipur police recovered 13 firearms, five live rounds and four explosives, including two improvised mortars, a hand grenade and a mortar bomb, during a combing operation in Kukimun village on Monday.
In separate operations on October 4 and 5. Several persons were arrested in connection with alleged attack on residences of MLAs, recruitment and trafficking activities, narcotics offences and illegal procurement and sale of arms, while 318 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, 10 soap cases containing suspected heroin, ₹41,000 in cash and multiple vehicles were also seized.
A joint team of Henglep Police Station and security forces conducted a combing operation in the general area of Kukimun village today. The team recovered two 9 mm CMGs, three 9 mm pistols with magazines, seven single-barrel bolt-action rifles, five live .22 rounds, two improvised mortars (Pumpi), one No. 36 hand grenade and one mortar bomb. The items were seized and handed over to Henglep Police Station.
Police said intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations are being carried out extensively across the state to nab those involved in extortion and other criminal activities.
On October 4, acting on reliable information, teams of Manipur Police conducted search operations at several places and arrested five cadres of a banned militant outfit. Police said they were involved in recruiting new members and in the bomb blast at the residence of the MLA of Konthoujam Assembly Constituency in August 2026.
The arrested included two 19-year-old women alleged to have been involved in the August 28 blast, along with a 23-year-old man and two 19-year-old men from Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts. A child in conflict with the law (CCL) was also apprehended, and a yellow scooter was recovered.
Police also said a juvenile was rescued from being recruited by the outfit. The arrested persons and the seized scooter were handed over to Lamphel Police Station for further legal action.
Also on October 4, a combined team of Police conducted a cordon-and-search operation at Sora Bazar and arrested a 26-year-old active cadre of a banned outfit from Sora Makha Leikai, Kakching District. A silky silver four wheeler and a fake Aadhaar card were seized from him.
Investigators said he had been using the van to transport newly recruited cadres to Myanmar after arranging fake Aadhaar cards for them. In follow-up action, the team intercepted a black Thar vehicle at Kakching Lamkhal and arrested its 45-year-old driver, a resident of Nepali Basti, Moreh, Ward No. 5. He is also an active cadre of the outfit, and his assigned task was to facilitate the transportation of newly recruited cadres to Myanmar. The arrested persons and seized articles were handed over to Kakching Police Station.
In a separate operation on October 4, Manipur Police arrested a man, a resident of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Awang Leikai, at Sora Bazar, Kakching, acting on reliable intelligence. Police seized 10 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4, Rs. 41,000 in cash and a two wheeler. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had collected the heroin from Moreh for Rs. 4 lakh on the instructions of an associate from Thoubal, and was transporting it towards Imphal for further delivery. He and the seized items were handed over to Kakching Police Station.
On October 5, in connection with an FIR registered at Andro Police Station, a joint team of CDO/Imphal East, Andro Police Station and security forces arrested a man from Thambalnu Market, Imphal East. Police said he is involved in the illegal procurement and sale of arms, ammunition and explosives.
Investigation revealed that in July 2026 he supplied a hand grenade, through two women, to an associate for Rs. 10,000. He is being handed over to Andro Police Station for further legal action. UNI NS CDS
