Two killed in cracker godown blast in TN, unconfirmed reports says four

Chennai, Sep 30 (UNI) Two workers were killed in a blast, triggered by a fire, at an illegal country-made cracker unit at Paramathivelur in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday evening, though unconfirmed reports puts the toll at four.
When contacted by UNI sources in the DGP office, while confirming the incident, said they are awaiting confirmation from the spot on reports of casualty and injuries, though multiple sources confirmed at least two deaths.
Five workers were engaged in mixing chemicals for making crackers at a godown where the fireworks were stored, when a fire broke out due to friction resulting in the explosion.
The impact of the explosion was such that the entire building was completely razed to the ground.
According to reports received, two people died on the spot and three were said to be trapped in the debris. After hectic efforts, police and fire service personnel, rescued the injured trapped workers from the rubble and shifted them to the government hospital, where two more succumbed.
The deceased included the godown owner Raja and his wife Sandhya, who died on the spot and later two more died at the hospital, taking the casualty to four.
One person was admitted to hospital for treatment with serious burns.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
