Union Minister Mohoḷ urges MPSC protesting students to call off agitation

Pune, Oct 4 (UNI) union Minister Murlidhar Mohol on Sunday appealed to students protesting over various demands related to the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to call off their agitation, saying the state government has responded positively to their concerns.
Addressing a press conference, Mohol said he had personally spoken to students protesting at SM Joshi Bridge, Alka Chowk and Shastri Road and had followed developments despite being away from Pune.
He said a delegation of students met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and held discussions for nearly three hours, during which most of their demands were discussed positively.
On the demand for the resignation of the MPSC chairman, Mohol said the post is a constitutional position and falls outside the direct jurisdiction of the state government. He said the Chief Minister had assured the students that a judicial inquiry would be completed within three months and further action would be taken based on its findings.
Mohol said the government had also assured students that they would not be subjected to repeated demands for documents and that the process would be simplified.
He said the issue concerning objective and descriptive examinations would also be considered by the Radhakrishnan Committee.
Mohol questioned why the agitation continued despite a student delegation reportedly expressing satisfaction after its meeting with the Chief Minister. He also urged NCP leader Rohit Pawar, who has been involved with the protesting students, to hold further discussions with the Chief Minister.
Appealing to the students, Mohol said their concerns about their careers and future had been taken seriously and urged them to continue pursuing their demands through dialogue. UNI SP SAS
