Unregistered Bengaluru madrasa under scanner

Bengaluru, Nov 6 (UNI) Serious questions have been raised over the functioning of Jamia Muhammadiya Mansoura Madrasa in Bengaluru, which has allegedly been operating without registration since 2016 and secured a government grant of Rs 5 lakh through purportedly forged documents.
The controversy has also brought under scrutiny the role of the Department of Minority Welfare, with questions being raised over its reluctance to recover the grant amount despite directions from the High Court.
In an official clarification, the District Officer of the Department of Minority Welfare, Bengaluru Urban District, stated that Jamia Muhammadiya Mansoura Madrasa, functioning under the management of Mumbai-based Jamia Muhammadiya Education Society, had not submitted any documents relating to its registration.
Adding to the concerns, the Superintendent of the Greater Mumbai Region has clarified that the organisation is not registered with the Public Trust Registration Office in Mumbai.
The findings raise questions about the legal status of the institution, which has reportedly been imparting education to students from different states since 2016.
According to allegations, the organisation, despite lacking registration in Bengaluru, Mumbai or elsewhere, submitted forged documents to the Department of Minority Welfare to obtain a grant of Rs 5 lakh.
The issue has assumed significance as the department has allegedly failed to initiate recovery of the grant amount even after the High Court's directions, raising questions about accountability and enforcement of government grant rules.
The matter also puts the spotlight on the verification mechanism followed by the department before releasing public funds to educational institutions and the checks in place to establish their legal status.
Questions remain over the circumstances in which the grant was sanctioned, the officials responsible for verifying the documents and the delay in recovering the money.
