Vigilance orders preliminary enquiry into corruption in KSTP road works

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (UNI) The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has ordered a preliminary enquiry into alleged corruption and irregularities in road construction works carried out by PATI-BEL under the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP), following a complaint lodged by contractor Sajan.
The enquiry was ordered by the Government after contractor Sajan submitted a complaint on October 23, raising allegations concerning the execution of KSTP road works and the settlement of contractors' bills.
In a communication dated November 5, Vigilance Director Manoj Abraham, IPS, directed the Superintendent of Police, Special Investigation Unit-I, to register a preliminary enquiry and investigate the allegations raised in the complaint.
The investigating team has been instructed to examine the relevant documents and statements relating to an earlier vigilance enquiry, registered as VE-01/2007/SIU-I, while looking into the fresh allegations.
The Director has also directed the unit to register the enquiry in the prescribed format in accordance with the Vigilance Manual and submit the required progress report without delay.
The communication further makes it clear that any extension of time sought for completing the enquiry must be supported by specific reasons and obtained with the prior approval of the Director.
The unit has also been asked to furnish the details stipulated in the Government's circular dated January 15, 2025.
The preliminary enquiry will examine the allegations made by the contractor and ascertain whether further action is warranted.
