UoH researchers get Rs 4.98 crore ICMR grant for AI-based PCOS blood test

Hyderabad, Sep 17 (UNI) A multidisciplinary research team from the School of Life Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has received a Rs 4.98 crore ICMR grant to develop an affordable, non-invasive blood test for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
The four-year project will combine single-cell transcriptomics and artificial intelligence to identify molecular signatures of PCOS and develop a diagnostic platform aimed at costing below Rs 2,000. The researchers also plan to create India’s first single-cell transcriptomic atlas of PCOS, providing a population-specific genomic resource.
The project, which began on September 16 following ICMR sanction on September 1, has received an initial first-year allocation of Rs 1.52 crore. The team is led by Prof. Suresh Yenugu, with Dr Manjari Kiran as Co-Investigator and Dr Sree Durga Patchava of Virinchi Hospitals as Clinical Co-Investigator.
The researchers said the platform could help classify patients into molecular sub-types, support personalised fertility care and reduce repeated and costly IVF interventions, according to UoH statement on Thursday.
