Vijay returns to Chennai, UK tour a stupendous success, MoUs committuing Rs 15,300 cr investments inked : TN Govt

Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. returned to Chennai on Thursday morning after a week long official visit to the United Kingdom aimed at attracting investments and strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position as a global manufacturing and technology hub.
During his visit, MoUs committing investments to the tune of Rs 15,000 crore were signed, offering more than 10,000 jobs and that the tour was a huge success and placed TN as one of the most preferred destinations for foreign firms to set up their business.
"The State government said the visit resulted in investment proposals worth Rs.15,300 crore, with the projects expected to generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. His first foreign visit after becoming CM was a big success", according to an official release, issued soon after VIjay landed in Chennai from London, which also listed out the MoUs signed by Guidance Tamil Nadu and British firms in his presence.
It said the UK visit showcased Tamil Nadu’s skilled workforce, industrial base, infrastructure, business environment and investment opportunities to global companies and Vijay has directed officials to follow up on the investment proposals and facilitate their implementation in the State.
It said apart from his visit opening up several follow-up business opportunities, besides the MoUs inked, officials of Guidance TN and other departments held consultations with ten leading firms and stakeholders from key sectors that included aerospace and defence, chemicals, logistics, construction, financial services, retail services.
These discussions could lead to inking pacts between UK firms and TN garment and textile manufcturers for procurement of raw amterials, giving a huge boost to the Textile sector.
Apart from the likely visit of an aerospace and defence delegation from UK to Hosur, a NEMSA delegation was expected to visit Chennai next month.
During his visit, the Chief Minister highlighted the opportunities arising out of the India-UK CETA and appealed to the British firms to make optimum use of it to expand their scope of investments in TN.
Vijay also assured them that his government would also prepare a detailed report identifying the potential opportunities for the State under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
