UP: CPI (ML) calls allegation of gangrape against policemen in Amroha as shameful

Lucknow, Sep 24 (UNI) The CPI (ML) today described the alleged involvement of local police and CRPF personnel in the gangrape of a young woman in Hasanpur, Amroha, as a very serious and shameful incident and demanded a high-level and impartial investigation.
The party said that when uniformed personnel responsible for law enforcement and women's safety become accused of sexual violence against women, it raises serious questions about the entire police and administrative system.
It is noteworthy that a sub-inspector and constable, as well as a CRPF inspector and head constable, have been arrested for the gangrape of a young woman from Haryana at a farmhouse in the Hasanpur area. Both policemen have been suspended and dismissal proceedings are underway.
CPI(ML) State Secretary Sudhakar Yadav said that the Yogi government makes tall claims about women's safety and zero tolerance against criminals in the state, but the Amroha incident raises serious questions about the ground reality of those claims. The issue isn't just about the four accused, but also how those in the police and CRPF had the audacity to commit such a crime.
The State Secretary said that if an employee of the police force, from whom women expect protection, is accused of sexual violence, leaving the investigation to the local police would not be fair to the victim. The investigation should be conducted by an independent agency under the direct supervision of senior officers, and the victim's statement, medical evidence, and all evidence related to the crime scene should be preserved.
Sudhakar Yadav demanded that the strictest possible action be taken against the four accused, none of them should benefit from their government service, uniform, or position, and that the case be heard expeditiously in a fast-track court. Departmental action against local police officers should not be limited to mere suspension; they should be immediately dismissed from service upon conviction, and equally stringent action should be ensured against CRPF personnel.
The CPI(ML) leader demanded that the victim be provided with full protection, respectful treatment, legal aid and appropriate compensation. It should also be ensured that the case is not undermined by pressure from any political, administrative, or influential individual.
The State Secretary stated that women's safety cannot be a matter solely for government advertisements and speeches. The emergence of allegations of crimes against women within the police system also raises questions of government accountability. The Yogi government must explain why there is such a significant gap between its claims of women's safety in the state and the ground reality.
