UP Govt launches ‘Ek Diya Gau Mata Ke Naam’ campaign to promote cow protection

Lucknow, Oct 28 (UNI) This Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh government is taking an initiative to link cow protection with public participation through the ‘Ek Diya Gau Mata Ke Naam’ campaign. Under this initiative of the UP government, shelters for stray cattle will be illuminated with diyas during Diwali, while cow-based products will also be promoted.
The initiative aims to foster greater public sensitivity towards cow protection while creating opportunities to economically empower rural women and farmers. Young people will also pledge to protect cows. More than 7,500 cow protection centres across the state are planned to be illuminated on the occasion of Diwali.
Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Dharampal Singh said here on Wednesday that "The Yogi government is placing special emphasis on strengthening the rural economy through efforts to promote cow-based products. Stalls featuring cow-based products and items made by women associated with self-help groups will be set up. Their sale will seek to provide rural women with additional income opportunities. There are also plans to create attractive gifts using cow-based products to encourage their use and purchase during Diwali."
Special programmes will be organised at gaushalas and shelters for stray cattle on the occasion of Diwali. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring the participation of villagers so that the festive spirit also carries the message of cow protection to the wider public.
Significant efforts are being made to develop gaushalas not merely as shelters, but also as centres for community participation and awareness in rural areas.
Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Aayog, Shyam Bihari Gupta, said, "The sale of cow-based products would bring greater prosperity to rural households. Promoting products made through self-help groups will give women an opportunity to achieve economic empowerment through their hard work and skills. Boosting demand for cow-based products during a major festival like Diwali will also encourage their production and sale in rural areas."
Under this initiative, women and young people in rural areas will be specifically sensitised about cow protection. Along with encouraging greater public participation in the care of stray cattle, people will also be informed about the uses and benefits of cow-based products. The objective is to connect cow protection with the wider community.
Gau Seva Aayog Chairman Shyam Bihari Gupta said, "The initiative to illuminate gaushalas and promote cow-based products during Diwali seeks to combine religious and cultural traditions with rural self-reliance. While the aim is to foster greater sensitivity towards stray cattle housed in shelters, the initiative also seeks to create economic opportunities for women associated with self-help groups and farmers."
The message of ‘Ek Diya Gau Mata Ke Naam’ is being taken forward with the vision of linking the joy of Diwali not only with tradition but also with cow protection, community participation and a stronger rural economy.
