US lawmakers seek closed-door briefing from NVIDA CEO Jensen Huang over suspected Chinese spy connections

Washington, Nov 6 (UNI) Three Republican committee chairmen in the US House of Representatives have asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to brief Congress behind closed doors over his reported relationship with a businesswoman accused of spying for China.
The request follows reports alleging that Huang had a close relationship with Alice Huang, who has been accused of passing information to Beijing, potentially including sensitive details about Nvidia technology.
The New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump had been briefed by intelligence officials about the alleged relationship and the claims against Alice Huang, but chose not to take action.
The Wall Street Journal subsequently reported that officials in at least three countries had raised concerns that she was passing information to the Chinese government.
Nvidia has rejected the allegations, describing Jensen Huang’s interactions with the businesswoman as routine business contacts. Beijing has also previously dismissed claims that it was spying on the company as “groundless speculation”.
In a letter sent on Thursday, Representatives Brian J Mast of Florida, John Moolenaar of Michigan and Rick Crawford of Arkansas requested a joint briefing with the three congressional committees they chair: Foreign Affairs, the select Committee on the CCP and the select Committee on Intelligence.
The lawmakers are seeking answers about Nvidia’s safeguards against foreign intelligence operations and Huang’s reported interactions with Alice Huang.
“Recent reports raise significant national security concerns regarding the [People’s Republic of China’s] access to sensitive US technology and information,” the letter said.
It added that alleged Chinese infiltration and access to advanced American technology were central to the committees’ investigations, stressing the need to establish whether US national security had been put at risk.
Nvidia defended its CEO, saying meetings with customers were a routine part of his responsibilities.
“Meetings with customers are part of a CEO's job; Jensen talks with thousands of customer executives every year,” the company said in a statement.
It added that regional cloud customers received ordinary business information rather than sensitive Nvidia trade secrets or material relevant to national security.
“We're confident that if the US government believes that any person is a threat to American industry, it would let us know,” the company added.
