Vigilance recovers over Rs 2 cr from house of Odisha chief engineer

Bhubaneswar, May 30 (UNI) Sleuths of the Odisha Vigilance Department on Friday recovered Rs 2.1 crore in cash from the residence of chief engineer RW Division Baikuntha Nath Sarangi during a search operation.
Vigilance sources said while approximately Rs 1.1 crore was recovered from his Bhubaneswar flat, around Rs 1.1 crore was found at his residence at Anugul. Searches are continuing.
Vigilance sources said on seeing the vigilance officers, Sarangi threw cash bundles of Rs 500 notes through the window of his flat at Bhubaneswar. The search team recovered the money in the presence of witnesses.
Simultaneous searches have been going on at seven places belonging to Sarangi since this morning by 8 DSPs,12 inspectors, 6 ASIs, and other officers in Anugul, Bhubaneswar, and Pipili following allegations of Sarangi possessing disproportionate assets beyond his known sources of income.
