Vijayendra seeks proof of Shivakumar's voter deletion claim

Bengaluru, Oct 6 (UNI) BJP Karnataka president Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Tuesday mounted a fresh attack on Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, challenging his claim of a conspiracy to delete 5,000 to 10,000 AHINDA voters in every Assembly constituency.
Vijayendra sought an explanation from the Chief Minister on how his allegation of mass voter deletions could be reconciled with the figure of 91,278 Form-7 objections cited by Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukumar.
“Yesterday, Anbukumar stated that around 91,278 objections had been submitted. But the Chief Minister claims that in every Assembly constituency, there is an attempt to remove 5,000 voters. How can these two claims be reconciled?” Vijayendra asked.
The BJP state president alleged that Shivakumar was turning the SIR exercise into a political controversy and staging a “drama” before the Election Commission by alleging a conspiracy against AHINDA voters.
“Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar himself staged a dharna and tried to create a false drama. He is alleging that in every Assembly constituency there is a conspiracy to remove 5,000 to 10,000 AHINDA votes from the electoral rolls,” he said.
Vijayendra also questioned the Chief Minister's attempt to link the Form-7 process to the BJP and the Central government, pointing out that the electoral machinery handling the objections was under state government officials.
“Who is Anbukumar? He is an officer appointed by the state government. He is not appointed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
He said filing Form-7 was a legitimate provision in the electoral process available to all political parties, and claimed that BJP Booth Level Agents-2 were submitting such applications which would subsequently be scrutinised by Booth Level Officers.
“Our Booth Level Agents-2 submit Form-7 applications. The BLOs will look into them. Who are these BLOs? They are officers working under the state government. They are not under the Central government,” Vijayendra said.
He alleged that Shivakumar was simultaneously accusing the BJP and JD(S) while questioning an electoral process that was being handled by election officials.
“Knowing all this, the Chief Minister is, on the one hand, staging a drama before the State Election Commission and, on the other, making allegations against the BJP and JD(S),” he alleged.
Vijayendra demanded that Shivakumar first substantiate his allegation of a constituency-wise conspiracy to delete thousands of voters before accusing the opposition of manipulating the electoral rolls.
