Bengaluru, May 19 (UNI) As Karnataka's Congress government celebrates the completion of two years in power, state BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Moday criticised the ruling party, alleging that the state has witnessed "zero development" and "rampant corruption" during this period.
"The people of Karnataka are laughing at the state Congress government," Vijayendra said. "In the last two years, the Congress regime has delivered absolutely no development. Corruption has become the norm in every department," he told reporters here.
He questioned what the Congress leadership, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, has achieved in these two years to warrant celebration.
Vijayendra referred to the "MUDA scandal", where the Chief Minister, once hailed as a clean politician, was forced by the High Court to return illegally allotted sites. He also referred to the Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation scam, highlighting the siphoning off of funds meant for tribal welfare, which led to the imprisonment of a Congress minister.
The BJP leader expressed concern over rising youth unemployment and the distress faced by women in the state. He added that despite repeated demands from MLAs of both ruling and opposition parties, the government has failed to release development funds.
"Is this a time to celebrate?" Vijayendra asked, alleging attacks on Hindu activists and severe flooding in Bengaluru following even brief spells of rain.
He urged the Chief Minister to halt celebrations and instead focus on the development and welfare of Karnataka and its capital city. UNI BDN SSP
