Bengal: Condition of Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas injured in guest house fire stable

Kolkata, Oct 4 (UNI) Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas, who suffered burn injuries in a fire at his guest house in Dhuliyan on Saturday morning, is in a stable condition and responding to treatment, hospital sources said.
Biswas is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital, while his family said the initial danger has passed.
The fire broke out around 11 am in a first-floor room of the guest house on Saturday when Biswas was sleeping.
His family suspects that a short circuit in the air conditioner triggered the blaze, though the police and fire department are yet to establish the exact cause.
Biswas' elder brother Milton Biswas said the MLA had been feeling unwell since Friday after his blood sugar levels dropped and had been resting in his room.
He woke up after hearing someone shout and found the room engulfed in flames.
"My brother was sleeping in the room. A short circuit in the air conditioner sparked the fire. He woke up after hearing a shout, but by then, the fire had already spread," Milton said.
He added that Biswas suffered burn injuries to parts of his hands and legs while trying to put out the flames, but there were no deep wounds.
Locals rushed to the guest house after smoke was noticed coming out of the room and later helped in taking the MLA to a private hospital.
He was admitted to the ICU for treatment.
There were initially reports that Biswas would be shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital.
Anindya Goswami, superintendent of the hospital, said the family had informed the authorities around noon that they planned to bring the MLA there.
Preparations for treating burn injuries were subsequently made, but Biswas was ultimately admitted to the private hospital.
A large crowd gathered outside the guest house following the incident.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed concern over Biswas' condition and wished him a speedy recovery while seeking updates on his health.
Biswas had won the Sagardighi assembly seat on a Trinamool ticket in the recent election, defeating the BJP candidate by more than 34,000 votes.
He later fell out with the party and joined the Ritabrata camp.
His injuries in Saturday's fire triggered concern in political circles, though his family said they were relieved after doctors reported that he was responding to treatment. UNI BGA/SAG NST
