DMRC MMI projects, PWD road projects approved in 70th UTTIPEC meet chaired by LG

New Delhi, Sept 23 (UNI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday chaired the 70th governing body meeting of Unified Traffic & Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC), where six Multi Modal Integration (MMI) projects by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and two road projects by PWD, GNCTD were discussed and approved.
The six MMI plans approved during the meeting covered GTB Nagar Metro Station on the Yellow Line, SaritaVihar Metro Station on the Violet Line, Akshardham Metro Station on the Blue Line, Rohini West Metro Station/ Dr. Baba SahebAmbedkar Hospital Metro Station on the Red Line, Malviya Nagar Metro Station on the Yellow Line and Shastri Park Metro Station on the Red Line.
The MMI plans cover an influence zone of approximately 300 metres around a Mass Rapid Transit System station, while the plans are aimed at improving access and last-mile connectivity, walkability and pedestrian safety, along with other facilities for people accessing transit stations such as Metro and RRTS stations.
DMRC had prepared MMI plans for 31 Metro stations across Phase I and II Metro corridors in Delhi, and with the approval of these six plans, all 31 MMI plans have now been approved by UTTIPEC.
The meeting was attended by senior representatives of DDA, Delhi Government, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Delhi Traffic Police, DMRC, PWD, MCD, NDMC, Indian Railways, NCRTC and other agencies concerned.
The meeting also approved the proposed six-lane elevated corridor on Maa Anandmayee Marg from Outer Ring Road to Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, along with an underpass and roundabout at the Crowne Plaza intersection on Okhla Estate Marg.
The elevated corridor, located in South Delhi, has a total length of approximately 5.5 km and will connect Outer Ring Road with Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.
The proposed elevated corridor will bypass around 12 intersections on Maa Anandmayee Marg and is aimed at easing traffic congestion caused by the mix of traffic generated from the Okhla Phase I and II industrial areas.
The proposed underpass and roundabout at the Crowne Plaza intersection will further help in decongesting vehicular traffic on Okhla Estate Marg, while the second road project approved during the meeting relates to decongestion of Mukarba Chowk in North West Delhi.
The project comprises widening of the existing Road Over Bridge (ROB) on Outer Ring Road from six lanes to 10 lanes and construction of a four-lane ROB connecting Jahangirpuri Industrial Area with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar over the Delhi-Sonipat Rail line.
Widening the existing ROB aims to ease congestion for commuters travelling on the Outer Ring Road between Mukarba Chowk and Madhuban Chowk.
Under the proposal for new road connecting Jahangirpuri Industrial Area with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, it is expected to shift an estimated 20 per cent of vehicular traffic currently moving through Mukarba Chowk, while these interventions will also help in reducing congestion on NH-44 near Mukarba Chowk.
