Gurugram Police Impound Motorcycle with 53 Unpaid Challans Worth Rs 3.31 Lakh

Gurugram, Oct 10 (UNI) Gurugram Traffic Police impounded a motorcycle with 53 unpaid challans totalling Rs 3.31 lakh after its rider was caught with a tampered number plate and failed to produce vehicle documents during a checking drive at Pasco Red Light, officials said on Saturday.
The motorcycle was intercepted on October 9 by a traffic police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramkishan during a routine vehicle inspection.
Police said the rider could not produce the required documents, while an examination of the motorcycle revealed that its registration number plate had been tampered with.
A check of the vehicle's traffic violation records uncovered 53 pending challans carrying fines amounting to Rs 3,31,500.
Most of the challans were issued for riding without a helmet, failure to possess a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, number plate violations and other offences under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The motorcycle was subsequently impounded and shifted to a designated parking facility.
Gurugram Traffic Police said special enforcement drives were being conducted against motorists violating traffic regulations, particularly those with long-pending challans.
Vehicle owners have been advised to clear outstanding fines, maintain valid insurance and pollution certificates, and ensure that registration number plates comply with prescribed standards.
Police warned that tampering with number plates and disregarding traffic rules would invite action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The identity of the rider and the period over which the 53 challans accumulated were not disclosed. UNI KK CDS
