Haryana Police arrest 15 in Hisar cybercrime cases; Rs 58.46 lakh recovered, refunded or frozen

Panchkula, Sep 18 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested 15 accused in 15 cybercrime cases registered in Hisar over the past 15 days, while helping victims secure Rs 58.46 lakh through recovery, refunds and freezing of suspected transactions, a police spokesperson said on Friday.
The spokesperson said the drive was carried out under the directions of Hisar Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain and the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Mayank Mudgil.
Police said a total of Rs 58,46,524 belonging to cybercrime victims was either recovered, refunded or put on hold during the period, preventing the money from being moved further in suspected fraudulent transactions.
According to the spokesperson, cyber teams act immediately after receiving complaints by examining digital transaction trails, identifying suspicious bank accounts and collecting transaction details to trace those allegedly involved in the fraud.
Police also coordinate with banks and financial institutions to freeze the defrauded amount before it is transferred or withdrawn and subsequently facilitate its refund or recovery in accordance with prescribed procedures.
SP Jain said the speed with which a victim reports a fraud could be crucial in saving the money.
He urged people to immediately call the cybercrime helpline 1930 after detecting an online fraud, saying an early complaint increases the chances of getting the money put on hold.
Jain also cautioned people against sharing OTPs, PINs, passwords, banking details or screen access with unknown persons and advised them not to click suspicious links.
“Vigilance is the most effective weapon against cyber fraud. Do not make any digital transaction out of greed, fear or haste. Inform the police immediately if you notice any suspicious activity,” Jain said.
The spokesperson said Haryana Police would continue action to identify and prosecute cyber fraudsters while simultaneously focusing on tracing and restoring victims' money.
