Haryana Police to get major infrastructure expansion: Rs 658 crore extra, 5,000 new houses by 2030

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (UNI) The Haryana Police is preparing to make major changes to its personnel's living conditions and work structure. With a target of constructing approximately 5,000 new police residences by 2030, the government has provided an additional Rs 658 crore for police infrastructure and modernization.
Additionally, Rs 250,000 is being provided for the marriage of police officers' daughters and up to Rs 50,000 for children living in hostels pursuing higher education.
Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said on Thursday that in the new action plan of the department, the welfare of policemen and the infrastructure required for modern policing are being taken forward simultaneously.
The state currently has approximately 15,000 police quarters. The department aims to increase this number to approximately 20,000 by 2030. This means that approximately one-third of the current number of new quarters will be added over the next four years. The goal is to further improve housing availability by 2047.
An additional Rs 658 crore will be spent on the construction of new police stations, police lines, and residential buildings, along with modern equipment and other infrastructure. According to the department, the impact of projects related to this investment will begin to be visible on the ground within the next two years.
"Providing police officers with better housing, workspace, and amenities is essential for a strong and modern police system. Taking care of the educational and social needs of their families is also a priority," Singhal said.
Under the Shagun scheme, which began on April 1, for families of police personnel, Rs 2.50 lakh is provided for the marriage of a daughter. So far, assistance of over Rs 1.85 crore has been provided to 74 daughters.
Assistance has also been initiated for eligible police children living in hostels away from home for higher education. Five students have received five applications so far, receiving 50,000 rupees each.
In another facility for police families, 17 banquet halls have been prepared across the state, which will be operational from October 1. These include 15 in various police lines and one each at the Haryana Police Academy and Commando Training Centre. They can be used for weddings, engagements, birthdays, and other family events.
According to Singhal, the department's action plan isn't limited to welfare schemes. Work is also underway to build new police stations and police lines, increase housing, and provide technology and modern equipment.
He said that the focus of the plan from 2030 to 2047 is to create such a police system in which along with modern resources and strong infrastructure, equal attention is given to the "needs of the policemen and their families".
Moreover, the addition of Rs 658 crore and 5,000 houses to the top of this lead makes the news unfold like a solid budget and infrastructure news rather than a government press release.
