HP CWC to take care of two infant girls whose mother died under suspicious circumstances

Ashok Raina
Dharamshala, Nov 6 (UNI) The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is to take care of two infant girls whose mother has died under suspicious circumstances. CWC Chairman Vikramjeet Sharma today said the committee's primary objective was to ensure that the two infant girls did not remain deprived of proper care, nutrition, healthcare facilities and a safe family environment following their mother's death.
The action had been initiated under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, particularly Section 2(14), which defines children in need of care and protection.
The children's best interests would remain the top priority, and their circumstances would be assessed before taking further action under the relevant provisions of the Act, he added.
Sharma clarified that while the information received through social media was being taken seriously, determining the actual cause and circumstances of the mother's death was the responsibility of the police investigating the case.
The CWC, meanwhile, would focus on ensuring the protection, safety and welfare of the two children.
According to reports, a 26-year-old woman, the wife of a local Panchayat Pradhan in Jawalamukhi, Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, died under mysterious circumstances, leading to a police investigation. She has left behind two infant daughters—one aged about a year and the other just three months old.
