Hyd : CII calls for AI-driven manufacturing to enhance India's global competitiveness

Hyderabad, Oct 28 (UNI) India should accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, strengthen domestic value addition and empower MSMEs to transform its manufacturing sector into a globally competitive, technology-driven and sustainable ecosystem, industry leaders said at a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Wednesday.
Addressing the CII National Conference on Advanced Manufacturing, Telangana Special Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal highlighted opportunities in renewable energy, energy storage, electric mobility and data centres, stressing the need to strengthen domestic manufacturing across the solar value chain and develop energy-storage capabilities.
Rahul Garg, Chairman of the CII Special Taskforce on Advanced Manufacturing and Founder and CEO of Moglix, said AI, robotics, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and digital twins were becoming increasingly important for improving manufacturing productivity, product quality and export competitiveness.
B V R Mohan Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Cyient Ltd, said India's next phase of manufacturing growth should focus on design-led innovation, engineering capabilities and technology ownership rather than production scale alone.
He called for stronger collaboration among industry, academia, startups and MSMEs to develop globally competitive products.
Anand Ramamurthy, Managing Director of Micron India, emphasised the importance of infrastructure readiness, predictable policy frameworks and specialised talent in attracting investments and expanding advanced manufacturing, particularly in the semiconductor sector.
M Goutham Reddy, Chairman of CII Telangana, called for integrating sustainability with technology adoption and productivity improvement.
Telangana should build on its strengths in pharmaceuticals, aerospace, defence, IT and infrastructure while extending industrial development to rural areas and emerging sectors, he said.
Dilip Sawhney, Managing Director of Rockwell Automation India, stressed that technology adoption should be driven by business outcomes, leadership commitment and collaboration across the manufacturing ecosystem.
He called for greater localisation, stronger MSME integration and enhanced cybersecurity as factories become increasingly connected.
Gaurav Maheshwari, Vice-Chairman of CII Telangana, emphasised the need for closer collaboration between large manufacturers and MSMEs, greater access to advanced technologies and investment in automation to strengthen industrial value chains.
The conference, attended by over 200 industry leaders, technology experts and policymakers, deliberated on integrating AI, automation and IIoT into manufacturing, leveraging data across the value chain and attracting, reskilling and retaining talent in a technology-driven environment.
The participants stressed that higher domestic value addition, resilient supply chains, advanced automation, industry-aligned skills and sustained investment in research and development were essential to positioning India as a global manufacturing leader.
