Kangra rail restoration sought as monsoon damage disrupts services

Dharamshala, Oct 6 (UNI) State BJP Vice President and Kangra MLA Pawan Kajal, along with Kangra MP Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj and railway officials, on Tuesday inspected sections of the damaged railway track in the Kangra Assembly constituency and urged immediate restoration of rail services.
Kajal asked railway officials to inspect the damaged track at Kopad Lahad near Bathu Bridge and around Ranital Railway Station, where the track is reportedly damaged every monsoon, and find a permanent solution to the recurring problem.
He said the railway track had been damaged during the monsoon for the past four to five years, disrupting rail services and affecting employment and tourism in the Kangra Valley.
He claimed that hundreds of people in the Kangra Assembly constituency had lost employment opportunities due to the disruption.
According to Kajal, DRM Jammu Division Vivek Kumar and his team assured the MP that three trains would resume regular operations on the Pathankot-Ranital and Kangra-Joginder Nagar routes from the first Navratri on October 11.
The railway authorities sought four months to restore the remaining seven train services, he said, citing the need to repair the damaged tracks.
Bhardwaj also urged railway officials to accord priority to restoring rail connectivity and address the recurring monsoon damage permanently. He said he would recommend to the Railway Minister that year-round train services be restored on the Kangra Valley Railway Line.
Ranital Panchayat head Abhinav Sharma, Rajian Dam Panchayat head Rajiv Kaushal, Chaudhary Devi Lal, Satish Soni, Mandal BJP president Ranjit and several panchayat representatives and villagers were present during the inspection.
