UP Police personnel’s motorcycle allowance hiked to ₹1,000, says CM Yogi

Lucknow, Oct 21(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made three important announcements regarding increases in police allowances at the memorial parade held in Lucknow on Wednesday on the occasion of Police Memorial Day 2026.
He said that the motorcycle allowance of sub-inspectors and inspectors deployed on field duty is being increased from ₹700 to ₹1,000 per month. The uniform allowance of PPS officers will be increased from ₹6,400 to ₹15,000. Additionally, the SIM allowance of constables and head constables deployed on field duty is being increased from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Police Martyrs Memorial. Following this, senior administrative and police officers and staff also paid floral tributes and paid homage to the brave martyrs.
Saluting the police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, the Chief Minister said that the nation's debt to the martyrs can never be repaid. The alertness and dedication of police personnel are the foundation for establishing the rule of law in the state.
The Chief Minister said that a child reaching school safely, a daughter leaving home fearlessly, a businessman conducting business without fear, and a citizen receiving assistance in times of crisis may seem like ordinary events, but behind them lies the constant hard work, vigilance, and extraordinary sense of responsibility of the police personnel.
While the entire country was celebrating Vijayadashami, families were sharing joy, and effigies of Ravana were being burned everywhere, the police personnel were diligently performing their duties, ensuring that every citizen could enjoy the festival without fear.
Referring to the historical context of Police Memorial Day, the Chief Minister said that on October 21, 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose established the Azad Hind Government, giving a historic shape to India's struggle for independence.
On this same date in 1959, in the Hot Springs area of Ladakh, 10 brave soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force sacrificed their lives while bravely facing an ambush by Chinese soldiers.
On one hand, there is the history of the resolve for independence, and on the other, there is the saga of supreme sacrifice in the defense of the nation. Both events inspire sacrifice, courage, and devotion to duty. Celebrating Police Memorial Day on the day after Vijayadashami further deepens the message of the triumph of good over evil.
In 2018, while dedicating the National Police Memorial to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the police force's glorious history, courage, and sacrifice for generations to come. Each name inscribed on the memorial holds a story. A soldier may have planned for the future with their family, another may have dreamed of seeing their child thrive, and another may have pledged to serve their parents. But when duty called, they placed the security of the nation and society above personal aspirations.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government initiated the construction of the National Police Memorial, but political expediency stalled the project. Honoring the immortal martyrs of the police is not limited to any political considerations, but rather a matter of gratitude to the nation.
The Chief Minister stated that, previously, thousands of positions within the police force remained vacant. This was not merely due to a lack of resources, but rather a discriminatory policy of favoritism. Although a sub-inspector or inspector might occupy the chair at a police station, the actual decisions were dictated from elsewhere.
Between 2012 and 2017, Uttar Pradesh witnessed 815 riots. Each riot took a toll on the livelihoods of the poor—destroying the shops of small traders, depriving laborers of their daily wages, and disrupting the education of children. The incident at Jawahar Bagh in Mathura serves as a stark example: those who had illegally occupied the land were granted protection, while Superintendent of Police Mukul Dwivedi and Station House Officer Santosh Yadav lost their lives.
The Chief Minister noted that after his government assumed power in 2017, the political shackles binding the police force were removed. The police were given a clear mandate: the protection of the poor, the vulnerable, the business community, and the dignity of women and girls is the highest priority. Conversely, a policy of 'zero tolerance' must be adopted toward criminals, the mafia, and rioters who seek to spread terror in society.
Highlighting the reforms within the police administration, the Chief Minister mentioned that a police commissionerate system has now been implemented in seven major cities across the state. Prior to 2017, the Uttar Pradesh Police had the capacity to train only 6,000 personnel at a time. Over the last nine years, this capacity has been increased to 60,000. More than 2.26 lakh police personnel have been recruited in the state—entirely free from bias or corruption—while the recruitment process for another 35,000 positions is in its final stages.
The number of female personnel in the police force has risen from 10,000 to 45,000. Under the 'Skilled Sportspersons Scheme,' 1,000 medal-winning athletes are now serving in the Uttar Pradesh Police. At the Asian Games, athletes such as Parul Chaudhary (athletics), Arjun Deshwal (kabaddi), Deepti Sharma (cricket), and Rajkumar Pal (hockey) brought laurels to both the nation and the Uttar Pradesh Police by winning medals.
The Chief Minister stated that one of the country’s most modern forensic institutes has been constructed in Lucknow on land reclaimed from the clutches of the mafia. Every district now has a dedicated cyber police station, and every local police station is equipped with a 'cyber help desk.' This has significantly enhanced the capacity to process complaints regarding cybercrimes, conduct investigations, and provide assistance to victims.
While previous governments advocated for the withdrawal of cases against terrorists, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has now established new command centers—stretching from Deoband to the districts along the state's borders. Decisive action has been taken to dismantle the networks of anti-national forces, sleeper cells, and infiltrators. The operations conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) against the 'paper-leak mafia,' illicit liquor traders, notorious criminals brandishing AK-47s, dacoits, and terrorists have clearly demonstrated that no one in Uttar Pradesh is above the law.
The Chief Minister stated that over the past year, 154 police personnel across the country laid down their lives in the line of duty. This includes six personnel from Uttar Pradesh: Sub-Inspector Satyabhan Singh, Sub-Inspector Mohit Kumar Yadav, Constable Ashok Kumar, Constable Pradeep Kumar, Fire Service Driver Veerpal Singh, and Fireman Mohit Kumar. Since 2017, 18 police personnel from Uttar Pradesh have been martyred, and 1,953 have been injured during operations against crime.
This year, the late Inspector Sunil Kumar was posthumously awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry. Through the police salary package, more than ₹425 crore in assistance has been provided to the dependents of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is the government’s duty to honor and support the families of martyred police personnel. The sacrifices made by these officers serve as a poignant reminder of the profound dedication they demonstrate to ensure the safety of citizens and uphold the rule of law.
