Uttarakhand: Selja's letter fails to deter Harish Rawat as his political campaign continues

By Prithviraj Singh
Dehradun, Oct 6 (UNI) Even as AICC general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Kumari Selja snubbed Harish Rawat forbidding him from holding political rallies, former Uttarakhand chief minister today went ahead with his programme no holds barred.
Accompanied by several party MLAs in his Jan Samvad rally in Kumaon, Rawat annoumced to meet AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal and Selja on Wednesday (tomorrow).

Amid controversy resulting from Selja's letter to Rawat asking latter to stop his politicial rallies in election year, former chief minister continued his 'Jan Samvad' public outreach in Kumaon. He was accompanied by several senior party leaders and his supporters from Jaspur to Haldwani today as well.
Supporters of Rawat claimed that presence of large crowd of party workers in Rawat's Jan Samvad rally was mainly to express solidarity with Rawat. However, this has further intensified the stir in party's organisational politics for several leaders in the state are not amused by it.
Rawat overlooked the letter issued by AICC Uttarakhand in-charge and kicked off his journey from Kumaon with his supporters and was joined by former PCC president and senior party MLA Pritam Singh, former assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, other Congress legislators Adesh Chauhan, Tilak Raj Behar, Harish Dhami, Manoj Tiwari, former MLAs Lalit Farwan and Himesh Kharkwal along with former Lok Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta along with host of other party leaders. Congress workers loyal to Rawat stood firmly by him on second and last day of two-day Jan Samvad campaign. Rawat however refused to comment on Selja's letter to him, alleging his political activities were against party protocol.
He refused to comment on the letter written to him by Selja and said that he will go Delhi to meet party leaders on Wednesday.
Rawat stated that he will meet AICC General Secretary organisation KC Venugopal and Selja as well.
Selja's letter had least impact on Rawat's campaign as it witnessed presence of several party MLAs from Jaspur to Haldwani covering Kashipur, Ramnagar and Kaladhungi. He was accorded warm reception by the party during entire campaign procession.
Enquired about his response to the letter by Selja, he stated, "I am carrying tricolour in my hand in this yatra, but I haven't made a party programme anywhere. Party members are simply joining my campaign on their own."
"I was in the ICU at Medanta Hospital for several days. It is through the blessings of the people and the Almighty that I recovered from a serious illness before coming back to Uttarakhand. My this journey is to express my gratitude and thanks to the people of Uttarakhand. The ED and the BJP have tried to denigrate my self-respect and I have to fight back for that too," added Rawat.
