Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mar 29 (UNI) Non-conventional Energy Minister Atul Save on Saturday appealed to the citizens to use alternative energy sources.
He said, "Most of the country's energy generation is spent on coal and petroleum fuels. Since these fuels have to be imported, a large part of the country's foreign exchange reserves has to be spent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policy is to promote the use of solar energy and other non-conventional energy options to achieve this saving. Alternative energy sources should be promoted."
He was speaking on the occasion of an electric vehicle rally, organized jointly by Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) and Energy Efficiency Bureau (EEB).
Save said, "Saving energy means producing energy. Our country has to import fuel on a large scale. Therefore, it is our policy to become self-sufficient in terms of energy by using alternative energy."
"Accordingly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has now asked the people's representatives to use electric vehicles. In this way, by providing an alternative to the use of imported fuel, we can also save foreign exchange," said Save.
He further said, "Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is a pioneer in the production of electric vehicles. It is a matter of pride for us that leading entrepreneurs of the country are setting up electric vehicle manufacturing industries here."
The rally was flagged off by Save. More than 350 electric vehicles including motorcycles, three-wheeled rickshaws, goods vehicles, handcarts, buses, cars participated in this rally.
