Arunachal Dy CM inaugurates Septage Treatment Plant, says Govt committed to bringing citizen welfare projects

Itanagar, Mar 31 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday inaugurated the Septage Management and Treatment Plant at Alubari in Namsai district’s Chongkham for the cluster towns of Namsai, Chongkham, Tezu, Roing and surrounding rural areas. This project, funded under the Budget Announcement of 2021-22, marks a key milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and public health.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the plant’s transformative impact, highlighting its importance as a sustainable solution to address the region's sanitation challenges. He stated that the initiative not only provides an effective waste management system but also contributes to environmental conservation, better public health, and improved living conditions for the local communities.
He noted that the plant, first of its kind in eastern Arunachal Pradesh, will cater to the urban towns of three districts—Namsai, Lohit, and Lower Dibang Valley—while revealing that similar plants will be constructed in every urban town of the State for better sanitation and a healthier environment.
Mein reiterated that the State Government is committed to bringing welfare projects to improve the quality of life for its citizens, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of 'Reform, Perform & Transform.’
The Rs 2500 lakh project focuses on cleaning septic tanks from households, institutions, offices, and other facilities in urban towns like Namsai, Chongkham, Tezu, and Roing, as well as in surrounding rural areas. The collected septage will undergo treatment at the newly inaugurated facility, and the processed sludge will be utilized as non-agricultural manure, suitable for gardening and flower plantations. The treated liquid effluent, free from harmful contaminants, will be safe for disposal and can be used for watering plants, cleaning roads, or emergency firefighting.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Tezu-Sunpura MLA Dr Mohesh Chai, Dambuk MLA Puinnyo Apum, Namsai DC C R Khampa, Namsai ZPC Urmila Mancheykhun, Lohit ZPC Dasula Krisikro, among others.
Integrated Organic Processing Unit: Later, the Deputy CM laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Processing Unit of Lohit Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited at Medo, under Wakro circle in Lohit district.
This initiative aims to bolster organic farming in the region, creating economic opportunities for communities in Lohit and other eastern Arunachal districts. The project, developed under the MOVCD-NER Scheme, has been approved at a cost of Rs 914.75 lakh by NEDFi.
Speaking at the event, Mein underscored the significance of agro-processing units in ensuring farmers receive assured procurement of their produce with a minimum support price (MSP). He stated that the project will eliminate marketing bottlenecks for local agricultural products, ensuring a secure buyback mechanism for farmers.
The Processing Unit will feature a comprehensive Pre-Processing Line, including a Feeding Conveyor, Rod Washer, Brush Washer, Brush Peeler, Bubble Washer, and Inspection Conveyor, followed by Cutting Machines, a Blancher, an Online Dryer, a Fine Dryer, and a Cooling Conveyor for processing organic produce.
