Arunachal: Pasighat Police busts drug network; 3 including IRBn personnel arrested

Itanagar, Apr 4 (UNI) In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, the Pasighat Police in Arunachal Pradesh achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting three individuals, including an IRBn jawan, and seizing a total of 42.64 grams of suspected heroin in a well-coordinated operation on Wednesday last, East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba said on Friday.
Acting on credible information that one Mijom Damin, a serving IRBn personnel, allegedly involved in drug peddling, the Officer-in-Charge of Pasighat Police Station, Inspector Ige Lollen swiftly formed a team comprising SI K Dagium, ASI R Lowang, head constable S Lingu, and constables K Kharmo, and R Rukbo.
With the matter reported to SP and SDPO Pasighat, the team obtained necessary authorization under the NDPS Act and proceeded to raid the residence of the IRBn personnel Mijom Damin, currently on leave and residing at Gumin Nagar.
During the search, approximately 10.64 grams of suspected heroin was recovered and seized, along with a mobile phone and Rs 2,000 in cash, from his rented house in the presence of independent witnesses.
Upon interrogation, Damin disclosed that he had procured the contraband from one Ojong Osik. With this lead, the team proceeded to Osik’s residence at Kesung Paatang. En route, the suspect was spotted and positively identified by Damin. Following due procedure under the NDPS Act, a body search was conducted, resulting in the recovery of 15.81 grams of suspected heroin concealed in a tobacco container and transparent vial.
Both accused were brought to Pasighat Police Station and a case (25/2025) under Sections 21(B)/27(2) of the NDPS Act was registered and endorsed to Sub Inspector CI Manchey for further investigation.
Based on additional inputs obtained during subsequent interrogation, the police received information about another peddler reportedly residing in Assam’s Jonai and supplying contrabands to these two.
