Bihar: Green cover increasing through Jal Jivan Hariyali mission

Patna, Mar 31 (UNI) The green cover in Bihar is increasing through Jal Jivan Hariyali mission and the
environment, forest and climate change department has been constantly developing the natural forest area by conserving soil and promoting eco-tourism.
Official sources said here on Monday that Rs 517.28 crore was sanctioned to the department in the financial year 2024-25 and the fund was utilised for increasing the green cover across the state.
The sources further said that a target has been fixed to increase the green cover of Bihar from the existing 15 percent to 17 percent in the 4th agriculture road map which began in the year 2023 and would conclude in 2028.
To attain the goal, a target has been fixed to plant 20 crore saplings, the sources said and pointed that against the target of 4.68 crore plantation of saplings in the year 2024-25 3.90 saplings have been planted.
According to the sources, 246 government nurseries have the capacity of producing more than eight crore saplings. In addition to this one crore saplings were also being created from other sources.
The sources said that special strategy has been prepared to promote plantation and climate was also being considered while carrying out the mission initiated to protect the environment and climate, they added.
