Bomb threat to Chepauk cricket stadium turns out to be a hoax, Security tightened in Chennai

Chennai, May 9 (UNI) An anonymous email threat of bomb explosion at the iconic Chepauk cricket stadium, turned out to be a hoax on Friday, even as police have heightened security measures in Chennai city in view of escalating tension on the India-Pak border following recent terror acts.
The e-mail was received by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), which was administering the historic stadium, police sources said.
On being alerted, senior police officials along with Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad personnel with the help of sniffer dogs made a thorough search of the stadium.
However, no explosives were found and the threat turned out to be a hoax.
The Chepauk stadium was scheduled to host a IPL tie featuring CSK's home match on May 12. But the tournament itself was deferred by a week in view of the rising tension on the borders where a
war-like situation was prevailing after India launched Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attacks.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened across Chennai city in the light of the escalating tensions on the Indo-Pak border.
Security has been beefed up at places where public congregate in large numbers.
Vehicle checks and patrolling was also intensified and all vehicles entering the city were subjected to thorough checks, Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A.Arun told reporters on the sidelines
of a function this evening.
He said surveillance has been mounted across the city and checks were intensified in lodges to identify whether any anti-social elements are staying.
