Complaint filed against BJP MLC for comments on Chief Secretary

Bengaluru, July 3 (UNI) The Karnataka Congress today lodged a formal complaint against BJP MLC N Ravikumar, accusing him of using "unparliamentary" language and making "objectionable" remarks against the state’s Chief Secretary, Dr Shalini Rajneesh.
The complaint was submitted to Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) General Secretary V Manohar. In addition to the Legislative Council, complaints have also been filed with the Vidhana Soudha police station and the State Women's Commission.
In his submission, Manohar urged the Chairman to immediately suspend Ravikumar and initiate an inquiry into the BJP legislator's conduct.
The controversy stems from remarks Ravikumar allegedly made on July 1 in the presence of Leader of the Opposition in the Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and police officials. Expressing displeasure that Chief Secretary Rajneesh had not received a BJP delegation, Ravikumar allegedly said that she is "occupied during the day with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s work and only performs her government duties at night."
Manohar condemned the statement, calling it not only disrespectful to a top bureaucrat but also an "insult to women." He further demanded that the police register a case and initiate an investigation.
The remarks reportedly came following a protest staged by BJP leaders on July 1 near the Mahatma Gandhi statue within the Vidhana Soudha premises.
Manohar also highlighted a pattern in Ravikumar’s conduct, citing a previous incident involving the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi, Fauzia Tarannum. During a protest against Minister Priyank Kharge, Ravikumar had allegedly questioned whether the DC "came from Pakistan," a comment that had sparked outrage and for which he later apologised.
"Ravikumar is someone who repeatedly disrespects women," Manohar said, stressing the need for swift disciplinary action. He criticised the delay in response, noting that even after 48 hours, no suo motu case had been registered.
The Congress party has demanded that the government act decisively to uphold the dignity of public institutions and safeguard the respect of women officers serving the state. UNI BDN SSP
