Court acquits Dawood Ibrahim's brother in extortion case

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) A special court designated under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in Thane acquitted Iqbal Kaskar, younger brother of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, on Friday in an extortion case registered in 2015.

He will, however, remain in custody in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) linked to the same offence.

In June 2024, a court in Thane acquitted Kaskar from a similar offence of extortion.

Special judge BD Shelke acquitted him from all charges. The reasoned order was not available yet.

The arrests were made by former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma, who was reinstated last month and was made a senior inspector of the AEC in Thane.

According to the details Kaskar was arrested on Sept 19 ,2017 on a complaint of extortion lodged by a Thane-based builder at the Kasarvadavali police station

He was arrested by Sharma.

Kaskar had illegally taken four houses from the builder and was demanding more.

An FIR was registered against Kaskar and another accused and the provisions of MCOCA were invoked based on previous offences. UNI AAA SSP
